Sandcastles AI Alternative: ViewRank AI vs Sandcastles Compared (2026)

Sandcastles and ViewRank AI both help creators find viral videos and make their own. How they compare on price, free trial, breakdowns, ideas and scripts.

ViewRank AI is the closest alternative to Sandcastles, and for most solo creators and small teams it's the better value. Both tools do the same job: find the Instagram Reels, TikToks and YouTube Shorts that beat their creator's normal views, explain why they worked, and help you make your own version. ViewRank AI's Starter plan is $12.99 a month against $49 for Sandcastles Pro. It comes with a 7-day free trial, where Sandcastles asks new accounts to start on a paid $5 plan, and it includes a free Chrome extension that ranks any Instagram or TikTok profile in seconds.

The two tools take different roads to the same place. Sandcastles is built around a large database of videos it has already analyzed and watchlists of up to hundreds of channels. ViewRank AI starts from the accounts in your niche and goes deeper on each video, with a scene-by-scene breakdown, four complete ideas per video written for your audience, and scripts with two openings to choose from. The details below are from each tool's own website and help center, checked in October 2026.

What is Sandcastles AI?

Sandcastles is a paid research and scriptwriting tool for short-form video. It covers YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels, and it doesn't import long YouTube videos. It finds outliers, meaning videos that got far more views than their channel usually does, measured against the median views of that channel's videos from the 90 days before each one.

Its main parts are a searchable library of videos it has analyzed, watchlists of competitor channels, and a video analysis that covers the idea, the hook, the storytelling format and the visual layout. Each analyzed video also becomes an idea card, and a script writer can start from an idea or a video, from scratch, or from a draft you paste in. The paid plans above the $5 Starter add a brand voice called Persona, automations, scheduled reports and an AI assistant connector, and the top plan adds an API.

What is ViewRank AI?

ViewRank AI is how short video creators find the ideas already going viral on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, see what made each one work, and then make their own version. It has two parts that work together.

The ViewRank Chrome extension is free, needs no account, and has no limits. Open any public Instagram or TikTok profile, click Rank Now, and every video is ranked by views, likes, comments or outlier score, with the account's average and median views one click away. On TikTok it adds shares, saves and an engagement rate for every video.

The ViewRank AI workspace is where you turn what you found into videos. It transcribes in more than 60 languages, breaks each video down scene by scene, writes ideas and scripts for your niche, and watches the creators you choose with the Viral Tracker.

How much does Sandcastles cost compared with ViewRank AI?

Sandcastles has three main plans. Pro is $49 a month or $39 a month paid yearly, with 100 credits. Visionary is $99 or $79 with 250 credits, and Titan is $499 or $399 with 1,500 credits. A video analysis costs one credit and so does each new script, and reports cost credits too. Browsing, searching and editing a script are free. Unused credits don't carry over to the next month.

Getting in is the part to read carefully. Sandcastles' help center says new accounts start on a $5 Starter plan, with 10 credits and features such as global search, reports and Persona switched off, and upgrade from there. It also says plainly that "Starter is a paid plan, not a free trial." Cancelling Starter refunds the $5. Pro and the plans above it aren't refunded, and the terms of service say all sales are final.

ViewRank AI has two plans:

Starter Pro
Price $12.99/month, or $99/year $29.99/month, or $199/year
Transcriptions 200 a month 600 a month
Video ideas 400 a month 800 a month
Scripts 300 a month 600 a month
Visual analyses 30 a month 100 a month
Creators tracked 2 5
Projects 3 Unlimited
Post Kits Unlimited Unlimited

Both plans start with a 7-day free trial, so you can test the whole thing on your own niche before paying. If you cancel, everything you made, from transcripts to analyses, ideas and scripts, stays in your account. The extension is free whether you subscribe or not.

Put the first full plans side by side and the gap is wide. On Sandcastles Pro, 100 credits covers 100 video analyses and new scripts between them, so 50 analyses leave room for 50 scripts. On ViewRank AI Starter, at about a quarter of the price, you get 300 scripts a month on their own, plus 200 transcriptions, 400 ideas and 30 visual analyses on top.

How does each tool find viral videos?

Sandcastles starts from its own library of analyzed videos. ViewRank AI starts from the creators you choose, and lets you rank any profile the moment you open it. That difference shapes how you'll use each one.

Sandcastles' library is its strength. It says it analyzes millions of videos, and on Pro and above you can search that library across niches, add channels to watchlists, and set automations that analyze new videos from those channels for you. That's useful when you're exploring a niche you don't know yet.

ViewRank AI starts from the creators you already care about. With the free extension you open any public Instagram or TikTok profile, click Rank Now, and switch to Outliers. Every video is scored against that creator's own normal, and anything at 2x or more gets a green badge. It works on any public account, the second you open it, without waiting for a library to include it, and it costs nothing.

For the accounts you want watched without opening them, the Viral Tracker checks each one every few days. It works out the creator's normal from about 50 recent videos, leaving out the highest and lowest fifth so one old hit can't skew it, and flags any new video that reaches twice that number. It waits until a video is two days old before judging it, keeps the numbers updating while it climbs, and marks the ones still gaining fast with a Still climbing badge. Turn on the weekly email and the week's breakouts reach your inbox early in the morning, in your time zone, on the day you pick.

The honest trade: Sandcastles lets you watch far more channels at once, 150 to 250 per watchlist against ViewRank's 2 or 5 tracked creators. ViewRank AI's answer is the free extension, which ranks as many profiles as you like by hand, and the fact that most creators get their best ideas from a short list of accounts studied closely.

How deep is the video breakdown?

ViewRank AI walks through a video scene by scene, with a still frame from each scene. Sandcastles describes a video in categories.

Sandcastles' video analysis gives you a summary, the transcript, an idea analysis (the topic, the angle and the belief it challenges), the hook's category and formula, the storytelling format, and a category for the visual layout.

ViewRank AI's Visual Analysis watches the whole video and writes it up in four parts. It names the format and gives the specific reasons the video worked. It breaks the hook down on its own: the exact words, what's on screen while they're said, and why that pairing stops a thumb. Then it walks through every scene in order, and each scene gets a still frame pulled from the video, its timestamp, the words spoken, what's shown on screen, and a short note on the job that scene does. It ends with the shape the video is built on, written so you could build a different video on the same shape.

That depth matters most on videos where the words aren't the point. Plenty of Reels and TikToks win on what's shown, the cuts, the on-screen text, a reveal. A transcript can't see any of that, and a layout category can't tell you which shot did the work. How to break down a viral Reel scene by scene shows what a full breakdown covers.

How do ideas and scripts compare?

Both tools turn videos that already worked into ideas and scripts. The difference is how much of the new video is written for you before the script.

Sandcastles turns each video you analyze into an idea card. The card describes the original video's positioning, storytelling format, contrast and hook, and once you've filled in Persona, its brand voice feature on Pro and above, it adds three suggestions for adapting the idea to your audience. Scripts can start from an idea or a video, from scratch, or from a draft you paste in, with lengths from 30 to 120 seconds and translation into 8 languages.

ViewRank AI writes complete new ideas instead. From any video you get four, and they're not four versions of the same thing. Idea one is a faithful remake: the same format, beat order and device as the original, with a topic from your niche. Ideas two to four keep what made the hook work and apply it to different topics. You pick the one you like, and the script is written from it in your project's voice, with two different openings to choose from, a word count and an estimated spoken length. Lengths run from under 30 seconds to 90 seconds, or Auto, which sizes the script to the idea.

Your niche and audience come from projects, which every ViewRank AI plan includes. A project holds who you make videos for, the formats you film, and how you sound, and every idea and script is written with it. ViewRank AI also writes ideas for videos without talking, built on footage, on-screen text and music, when the video you started from works that way.

When the script is done, the Post Kit writes the caption, three to five hashtags matched to that video, a YouTube Shorts title and the cover text, from your actual script. It doesn't use credits on any plan. We couldn't find caption or hashtag writing anywhere in Sandcastles' help center.

What does ViewRank AI do that Sandcastles doesn't?

Six things, based on both tools' own websites and help centers in October 2026:

  1. A real free trial. Seven days of the full product, against Sandcastles' paid $5 starter plan.
  2. A free Chrome extension. Rank any public Instagram or TikTok profile by views, likes, comments, shares, saves or outlier score, export the results and download videos, with no account. We found no browser extension from Sandcastles.
  3. A scene-by-scene breakdown with frames. Every scene of the video, with a still frame, the words, what's on screen and why it held attention.
  4. More work for less money. Starter's 300 scripts a month alone is three times Sandcastles Pro's 100 credits, at about a quarter of the price.
  5. Captions and hashtags. The Post Kit packages every finished script for posting, without using credits.
  6. Four complete ideas from every video. Each run writes four new video ideas for your niche, with the hook written out in full: a faithful remake plus three fresh angles. Sandcastles gives you an idea card for each analyzed video, with three suggestions for adapting it.

When might Sandcastles be the better fit?

If you run a content team that needs to scan hundreds of channels at once, search a large library of videos across niches you don't know yet, or plug your research into AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude or into your own software, Sandcastles' higher plans are built for that, and priced for it.

If you're a creator or a small team that knows its niche, wants to study the accounts that matter closely, and wants the most ideas and scripts for the money, ViewRank AI covers the same job from $12.99 a month, and you can try all of it free for a week first.

Is there a free Sandcastles alternative?

Partly. No free tool does all of it, but you can cover the research half for free:

When that becomes a weekly routine, the workspace is what saves you the hours, with the tracking, the scene-by-scene breakdown, the ideas and the scripts in one place.

How do you switch from Sandcastles to ViewRank AI?

It takes about ten minutes.

  1. Install the free ViewRank extension and rank the profiles of the competitors you watched in Sandcastles. Switch to Outliers to see their breakout videos.
  2. Start the 7-day free trial of ViewRank AI and create a project for your account: your niche, your audience and how you sound.
  3. Add your closest competitors to the Viral Tracker, two on Starter or five on Pro, and turn on the weekly email.
  4. Import one outlier by pasting its link, run a Visual Analysis, then get ideas and write a script from the one you like.

By the end of the first afternoon you'll have a breakdown, four ideas and a script to compare with what you were getting before. How to find outlier videos on Instagram and on TikTok cover the research step in more detail.
