0:00I ran a Shopify store more than once chasing whatever trending product was working that month. None of them made me real money, but that's not why I actually stopped. I stopped because of something that I learned about this model, and it's something that I want to walk through with you in this video today. So, when I started drop shipping, I wasn't thinking about it as a religious question. I thought about it as a business question. Find a trending product, put it on the store, run ads, repeat when the trends die out. And I
0:27was doing this with multiple products. Before we get into the religious side of it, I want to get into the business side first because it's also important. Chasing trending products means that you're never actually building anything. The moment that product stops trending, your income stops, and then you have to start all over again. I never once felt like I was building towards something
0:46beneficial for society or for myself. There was no baraka in my hard work. And then I actually looked into the religious side of it, and that's what made me stop for good. There is a authentic hadith narrated that the prophet alayhi salatu was salam said that it is not permissible for you to sell something that is not with you, that is not in your possession, nor to profit off of what you don't own. In standard drop shipping, as you and I know it, that's exactly how the system was built. I was listing a product on my website as if I'm the seller of that product, and I never owned that product
1:22at any point. It shipped straight from the supplier to the paying customer. [music] And many scholars say that this specific structure, presenting something as if it's your own [music] while you yourself not possessing it, not owning it, falls directly under the hadith that I told you. Some scholars do accept a version of this model, but only when it's restructured. So, what do I mean by that? I mean that you need to disclose that you are essentially the middle man, that you are earning a commission, and you are not the primary seller. Now, that's completely a different arrangement, and that [music]
1:54was not how I was running my stores. Now, trade itself is not the issue. Buying and selling is halal. It's actually even encouraged in Islam. The issue was never a business, it was the structure that I was using. But looking back at it, both problems point to the same root. I was chasing whatever trend was working at the time instead of building a real foundation. A foundation of ownership built on the religion, built on legitimacy, but neither of that was there. I remember looking at my phone and scrolling on social media,
2:27specifically TikTok and Instagram Reels. I was refreshing my phone so much to try to find that new trend for the month, right? Because our trends die out. So, I was thinking to myself, am I going to be 30 or 3

3:08or model that I'm doing is it permissible? And look, you can always take the route of finding products that are trending at the moment, purchasing the inventory, branding it as your own, and obviously selling it on your Shopify website. So, we ask Allah to purify our efforts and give us the ability to allow us to build a proper business or a proper halal structure based on the foundations of Islam. And this is exactly what I am doing in my free program that I'm going to provide the link to in the description for you. You can network with like-minded brothers and sisters within the community that are also looking to get that remote
