0:00YouTube is quietly killing your views, and the worst part is that it's not your content. It's your settings right now inside of YouTube Studio. There are default setting options working against you. We're talking limiting your reach, slowing your growth, and keeping your videos stuck. What's up? I'm Caleb, and for the past 7 years I have been the co-owner and the content producer for the Impulsive YouTube channel, helping it grow to over 4.8 million subscribers and over 1.2 billion views. And in this video right here, I'm going to show you the 10 most important YouTube settings that are holding back your channel right now. And if you fix these settings in
0:40the right order, you will increase your reach, guaranteed. You'll increase your session time, and eventually you will finally give your videos a real chance to grow. So, let's start with the one that does the most damage. The first setting that can destroy your reach instantly. And this is where a lot of creators unknowingly sabotage themselves inside of your video settings. There's one simple question, is this video made for kids? Now, this sounds very harmless on the surface, but this is where things go wrong, because most people think, "Oh, yeah, like my content's clean, so kids can watch it. So, I'll just select yes just to be safe." But that's exactly
1:20what kills your channel growth, because made for kids does not mean safe for kids. It means your content is specifically created for children under 13. And the moment you select yes, YouTube disables the comments, it stops all the notifications, and it limits how your video is actually recommended inside of the algorithm. So, instead of playing it safe, you're actually killing your reach. So, unless you are making
1:45content for toddlers, always select no. And by the way, if you're serious about growing your YouTube channel after spending 10,000 hours and studying what actually works on YouTube, I I together 10 viral video ideas and titles all based on a real data from the top performing videos. You can just download it right now for free using the first link in the description. Now, let's move on to the next one. Now, this next setting is not about reach. It is about avoiding mistake that will eventually happen. And when it does, you'll feel it instantly. We're talking right as you upload a video. We're talking uploading a video by accident. Because by default,
2:24YouTube sets your video to public. Don't ask me why they do it, but that means the second that you upload it, it goes live. Even if your title isn't ready, even if your thumbnail isn't uploaded, even if your description isn't done. Yes, people have accidentally published videos which are not fully ready. Now, imagine that video right there going out to your audience. That's why you need to fix this. So, you need to go to your upload defaults, change that visibility to unlisted, and now nothing will go live until you actually decide. Now,
2:56that one change gives you full control. Now, this next one is where most creators lose subscribers without even realizing it. Your channel homepage. Because the moment that somebody clicks on your channel, they are making a decision. Do I stay or do I leave? And here's the problem. When most people land on your channel, it feels messy. They see old videos, possibly random playlist, sometimes just a whole wall of shorts. And instantly, that just creates a whole bunch of confusion. And when there is confusion, people don't subscribe. They leave. Okay? So, instead, you need to guide them and show them your latest videos first. Make it obvious about what your channel is
3:37about, and lead them to the next thing that they can watch. I want you to think about your homepage like Netflix. Everything is intentional. Everything is easy to follow. Because the easier it feels, the longer people stay. And then the longer that people stay on your channel, the more likely that your channel is going to grow because of all of these subscriptions that are going to be taking place on your channel. Now, this next setting is a hidden traffic opportunity. And almost nobody is really
4:09using it properly. And this is chapters. YouTube can automatically create chapters for your videos. Now, it sounds very, very helpful, but here's the problem. They are extremely generic. Okay? [laughter] They're not optimized for anything, and they won't actually match what the people are actually searching for. And here's what most creators don't realize. Chapters in general can show up on Google, which means that a chapter is actually an opportunity, another opportunity, for your video to get discovered. But if your chapter says something like discussion, you just wasted an opportunity. So, instead, you need to write your chapters, use real search terms, and match what people are actually typing into Google. Now, your
4:51video doesn't just rank once, it can continue to rank over time, and then rank multiple times past that. Now, let's talk about something that most creators don't talk about, but you should. And ultimately, it's your safety. There's a setting called featured places, and if this is actually turned on, YouTube can detect and display your location, your home, your gym, places you visit frequently, and actually attach it to your content. Now, for most creators, there is really just zero benefit here, okay? It's only a whole bunch of risk. Because honestly, like once that information is public, like it becomes public. So, turn it off and protect yourself early. Now, this
5:27next setting is very, very subtle, but it can quietly kill your videos, and it comes down to one checkbox. Notify subscribers. Now, at first, that sounds like something that you should always keep on. But that's not always true, because when you upload a video, YouTube shows it to your subscribers first. Then then based on how they react, decides whether they should push it a whole bunch further. Now, I want you to think about this. What if the video is not for all your subscribers? They don't click
5:58or maybe they just click and they leave. Now YouTube thinks that that video is just really bad, even if it's not. So, if your video is a specific niche or just really really niche down, turn it off. Let YouTube find that right audience first. Now, let's clean up something that affects how your entire channel feels, your comments. Because this is something that most creators completely overlook in this whole process. But your viewers notice instantly. You've probably seen a whole bunch of comments like people dropping random links, promoting their own YouTube channels under your videos, or maybe even just a whole bunch of
6:35negative comments that add zero value. Things like, oh, you know, this video is just complete trash, or bro, you don't know anything about this topic, or just pure hate with no context and nothing that's actually good. And overall, this looks small, but it's not because that kind of noise just ends up lowering that quality of video and just overall quality of people getting attracted to your channel. And yeah, it just attracts more of that same, which overall just makes your content feel very very spammy and then less trustworthy. So, here's what you need to do. Go to your settings right now. Add blocked words. Filter common spam phrases and block links from
7:14a whole bunch of just new commenters. Now your comment section becomes very very clean and your channel instantly feels much more professional on the surface. Now we shift into growth because this is the next setting that directly impacts how fast your channel scales, session time. And this is where end screens really start to come into play because when somebody finishes a video, they have a choice whether to leave or they keep watching. And when they leave, guess what happens? You lose. You lose that momentum. But if they continue, you win. So, guess what
7:50you do? You guide them to another video. You add another video. You add a playlist. You give them a clear next step. Even if a very small percentage actually clicks, that compounds massively over time. And those viewers are the ones who eventually end up becoming your die-hard fans. Now, this next one is really, really simple, but incredibly powerful when you use it right. It's your channel trailer. Most creators ignore this, but this is actually your chance to convert viewers into subscribers. And setting it up is actually really, really simple. So, go to your YouTube studio right now, click on customization, and then go to your home tab. Here, you'll basically just
8:27have two options. One for people who are not subscribed, and then one for people who are actually subscribed. So, for new viewers, set your best-performing video, okay? So, the one that actually gets you the most subscribers. Because that is what has proven to convert viewers to subscribers. And for people who have already subscribed to your channel, set your latest video. Because they already know you, and they just want to see what is new within your content. Now, you are speaking to two different audiences in the right way, and that small change will noticeably increase a whole bunch more conversions for yourself. Now is the final setting, and this is what ties
9:06everything together. Clarity. When somebody lands on your channel for the first time or the hundredth time, they should know instantly who you are, what you do, and why they should care about you or your content. Your profile needs to be so crystal clear. We're talking your banner should be simple, your description should be very direct. Because when there's a whole bunch of confusion, people don't trust you just implicitly. And when they don't trust, guess what happens? They don't subscribe. Now, here's the cold hard truth. Fixing these settings will not make you go viral overnight, but ignoring them will keep you stuck in the same place. So, fix your foundation
9:48because once that is really really solid, your content finally gets the chance that it actually deserves. And that right there is when the real growth starts. And if this helped you at all, make sure to hit the like and subscribe button because I break down what's actually working on YouTube right now. Not just a whole bunch of fluff, legitimate strategies. And if you want to grow faster, you should actually just watch my next video right here, which is where I show you the new way to actually grow on YouTube in 2026, okay? Overall, that is the system right there that creators and business owners are using
10:21right now to scale fast. I'll see you there.
