This is the full transcript of Free Codex is a Cheat Code for Productivity, published on YouTube by Alper S. Every paragraph carries the moment it was spoken, so you can click any line to jump straight to that point in the video, search the whole thing for a word, or copy it out.
0:00Free Codex built this habit tracker for me in 38 seconds and it used about 1% of my free month. If you have never written code, you can build small tools like this today without paying anything. So, where do you get it? Which settings do you pick and what does it cost? I'll show you every click. On the free plan,
0:26Codex runs in the ChatGPT desktop app. Go to learn.chat.openai.com and download it. There's a version for Macs with Apple chips and for Windows, too. Open it, sign in with free ChatGPT account and check that it says Codex at the top left. Down at the bottom, you'll see the model GPT-6 Luna. On the free plan, that's the
0:51only one you can get. Next, give it a folder working. Make a new empty file first so everything it builds stays in one place. In the file menu, choose open folder and pick it. It asks you if you trust this folder because it can read, edit, and run files in there. Click trust folder. That warning is fair, so never point it
1:19at your whole computer. Now, the one setting that matters. Click ask for approval down by the message box. You get three choices. Full access lets it use the internet and any file on your computer. For your first projects, keep ask for approval. It has to ask you before it edits anything outside your folder or goes online. Now, just describe what you want in
1:47plain English. I asked for a habit tracker in a single file with a streak for the last week saved in the browser. It looked at the empty folder, made a plan, and wrote the page. That took 38 seconds. I opened the file, add a habit, ticket off, and reload. It's still there. Then I asked for one change, a dark mode switch in the corner. That took 19 seconds. I didn't write a single line of code. So, what did that cost? Click your account button on the bottom left, then
2:23usage remaining. Before I started, it said 100% after the build and the change, it said 99. It's one monthly bar and the date next to it when it fills up again. In my last video, I ran 130 jobs through free Codex and it still had more than half its month left. OpenAI doesn't publish a number for the
2:49free limits, so check that bar yourself. So, that's the whole setup. Download the app, open an empty folder, keep ask for approval, and describe what you want. For learning and for small tools, free Codex is enough. What would you build first? Tell me in the comments. If you want more free AI tools tested like
