This is the full transcript of HOW TO SET UP & INSTALL THE FACEBOOK PIXEL, published on YouTube by Ben Heath. Every paragraph carries the moment it was spoken, so you can click any line to jump straight to that point in the video, search the whole thing for a word, or copy it out.
0:00hi guys is Ben Heath from lead guru and in this video I'm gonna show you how to install the Facebook pixel now it's absolutely essential if you're advertising on Facebook that you do install the Facebook pixel and make sure that using it correctly because number one it allows you to optimize for whatever it is that you want to optimize your facebook ad campaigns for let's say for example you're looking to generate purchases or looking to generate leads well if you have the Facebook pixel installed on your website you can tell Facebook I want to generate purchases I want to generate leads and they will optimize your campaigns so that you
0:30generate more purchase and leads they will improve your campaigns to help you achieve that objective that's a huge point the second thing is that the pixel is what allows you to retarget with Facebook advertising they've probably heard of retargeting and heard how effective it can be but it is true if someone's already visited your website but they didn't purchase they didn't become a lead it's very very effective to advertise to that person again retarget them put ads in front of them and get them to take action because if someone didn't buy the first time it doesn't mean they're not interested they may just become distracted or it wasn't
1:00quite the right time so retargeting is very very effective and you need the Facebook pixel installed on your website in order to be able to retarget so absolutely essential if you're doing any sort of Facebook advertising and you're sending people to a website that you have the face of pixel installed and that's we're gonna very quickly cover in this video so right now I'm in a demonstration Facebook ad account you can see all sorts of stuff down here don't worry about it I am in ads manager if you don't know how to get here and what you need to do when you're in your Facebook profile you'll have a little
1:27arrow up here it'll be in black little downwards arrow click on that and then you should see manage adverts manage ads something like that click on that button and you will come in to a view that looks something like this but for the pixel we need to come out of here we need to select these three lines up here and I've got it and frequently used in pixels but you might not in which case select all tools and under measuring report and Events Manager you will have pixels so you want to go ahead and select that now if you've never and used the face of pixel before then you
1:57might not have it set up so you might not have this data in here well we've got you know various things various events and things like that that's absolutely fine it might just have a blank sort of screen that says setup pixel that's not a problem I've already done this demonstration in this ad account so I I'm sort showing you the process but all you want to do is go in and in that my case I'm going to select details and then what you will see once I've done that is that there is a setup button no matter what screen you've got there will be a setup
2:26button somewhere that's what you need to find if you're just setting up the pixel to start with go ahead click set we've already set it up for having it stored on your website then then you'll have a view that's more in line with what you can see here so we want to click setup and we want to go with install pixel and how everyone should be in the same space and no matter whether you've setup the pixel or not before so if you're fortunate enough to use one of these partners things like Squarespace WordPress shop things like Squarespace kajabi Magento etc installing the face of pixel is very very straightforward
3:00just click on the various option and go through the steps basically what'll involve it all you need to do is put in your face a pixel ID and then these platforms for the most part you know some of them are slightly different will automatically populate your website with the pixel code and you know for example Shopify will then feed all the data back into your ID account how many purchases you generated what the sale was value is worth from those purchases how much it costs you to generate those purchases all this fantastic way to do it very easy so I'm not going to show you obviously had to go through each and
3:31every one of these options it's very straightforward if you do use one of these come through and check the list just go ahead and click on them follow the steps Facebook make it very very simple and then go through and complete them and the face of pixel will be installed in a website very straightforward what I'm gonna do and in fact I'm gonna click back but what I'm gonna do instead is show you how to install the face of pixel on a WordPress website so imagine a lot of you guys that are watching this are either using one of these platforms up here there's got easy integration all using WordPress
4:00website and it's very very straightforward to do with a plug-in and there are lots of other platforms that operate in a similar way to WordPress that have plugins that you can simply install the Facebook pixel with and this is the easiest way so don't worry about manually adding pixel code to a website that all gets very complicated all you need is your Facebook pixel ID so if I close that down and you can see this here and in fact Facebook make it easy I can just click and copy that to clipboard that that number is my Facebook pixel ID very very important and that's all you
4:28need now if I go into website now the website I'm going into is a website called all dago's it's just a dog training related and blog style website that we own it's just a Content website at the moment so we don't have all sorts of plugins and the face it picks and why that sort of stuff installed are there but I thought it would be a great example just show you how to install the Facebook pixel on a WordPress website so what you want to do is you want to come in to your WordPress dashboard you want to navigate to plugins which is what I've already done and what you can
4:54see in front of you and then you want to click add new okay and then there are lots of different extensions you could use to install the face of pixel I have always used and really like using pics look at never lets me down so you can find that one you could use one of the other options I'm gonna show you how to do in pixel cuz that's the one I've used for years so install now and then obviously activate okay then I'll show up on this left hand side down here place with pixel okay and now what I need to do is it is copy and paste my ID
5:32in here I said I've already done this in this account but I want to demonstrate you get there so that would normally be blank you would just come in paste your pixel in there and click add new okay and I'm gonna delete this cuz I'm gonna show you how the process so what this does by pasting that in there and clicking save down here and installs the base Facebook pixel code throughout your website so that means you can track people that are visiting your website in the basic form so you know how many people visits your website when they visit your website you can then retarget
6:04all that sort of stuff but if you want to go one stage further and create a conversions campaign on facebook which I talked about a lot check out my other videos if you're not familiar with that you want to create a conversions campaign and you want to optimize for something like lead so you want to tell Facebook look I'm trying to generate leads this is what it lead is well then you need to install some event code and set up the pixel to track events on your website so that Facebook knows what a lead actually is so I do that down in this event section let's click add new so there's number
6:34different triggers with the with the basic you know unpaid for version of it'll calculate page magic which is absolutely fine now what you want to do is you want to select the page here let's say we want to track leaves for example so there's lots of you know standard events that you can use I want to track leads you want to select a page here that people are taken to after they become a lead so after someone fills out your contact form or signs up for a newsletter or opt-in for an email list what page are they taken to you want to use that Thank You page okay so we don't
7:07have anything like that set up on this website but I could just for example go ahead and pop in the contact page and say anyone that visits my contact page I want to register them as a lead and that means that anyone visits a contact page will be registers a lead and then Facebook knows as I said normally that would be a thank-you page that people are taken to after they take a specific action okay don't need to worry about any of this stuff you could just click Save and now we've got that set up so that any one of us as my website can be
7:33tracked we know that they visited the website the pixel is picking them up and we've got the lead event code so that anyone that visits the contact page triggers as a lead and as you can see from you know these events you can use all sorts of different event code to track different actions that people take on your website can be very very useful you can sort of have a play about with that and think what actions do I exactly want to track the obvious one I've shown you is lead things like Add to Cart purchase you're probably less likely to use with pixel cap because most of time
8:02you're going to be using one of those shopping cart platforms like a Shopify and things like that and they will populate all that for you when you pop in the Facebook pixel ID it's all based around that number so if I'm gonna cancel that so I add anything apps so that's the face of pixel now installed but one thing we need to do is check that it's working properly that's really important so I'm just gonna open a new tab here and go to poor dog O's okay so this is what the website looks like now you can't see it and in fact let me just pull the screen down slightly there we
8:35go so you can see it now so this here is a Google Chrome extension called the Facebook pixel helper I'll include a link to that in the video description and what this means is that this Google Chrome extension obviously have to be in the Google Chrome browser to go out to see this will tell you if the Facebook pixel is installed on the page that you're on and it will tell you if any event code is installed on that page as well it's a really really valuable tool to quickly go in your app to check any code or anything like that you can just tell completely free to use so I definitely
9:03recommend you install the face of pixel helper and by the way to work on your website anyone else's website so if you're wondering are they advertising on Facebook and you've got questions around that the face of pix will help her will tell you whether or not they are but the face of pixels on there it's a really good chance they are advertising so you can see that that's got to there I click on this and you can see that this is the home page and yet this Facebook pixel is installed and we're tracking page view page view is the standard as I said that's the base code that goes on your
9:27whole website that tracks where people go on your website the pages they visit and the fact that they've been there page you very very straightforward now we've installed some event code so you want to make sure that that works as well now if I go ahead and put in contact into there and we'll navigate to the contact page which is where we installed our lead code you can see that that's number three instead of a two and you can see the Facebook's robot is confirmed that it is registering page view and it is registering leads so everyone who visits that website is obviously paid to you as is people who
9:57visit other pages but they're also getting registered as a lead now you can be a little bit more advanced with these and with these events so for example I could assign a value to the lead and if I quickly come back in here I can for example well that's live I'm sure I can edit this you know we can add in parameters here we go and pop in a value so let's say I know that each lead is worth you know a hundred pounds to my business on average you might go to make that sort of calculation I want to make sure that that's activated click Save
10:32now if we come back to this page the contact page and i refresh this page we're still registering obviously page you and lead as we wanted but we can also see that the value there is a hundred pounds GBP is the currency now that data will be fed back into my facebook ad account so if I'm advertising on Facebook and I'm generating leads for let's say you know 20 pounds each the value can be displayed the lead value can be displayed in the columns within my Facebook ad account which is absolutely fantastic is particularly valuable for and your ecommerce businesses and businesses the selling products and
11:11people's order values vary with leads they're gonna be you're gonna take an average so you can make that calculation quite as yourself but with e-commerce businesses business selling products there might be quite a big valuation in the value of a customer that data will be fed back into your Facebook ad account you can see yesterday we spent $350 we generated $800 in sales you know that's a two point two X return on adspend that's great or that's not high enough you can use that information to make your decisions there's all sorts of really cool stuff you can do with the face of pixel I'd strongly strongly
11:43recommend that you get it installed as you can see it takes minutes to get installed we know we've now got this installed we've also got an event is installed we've also got some and values being fed through very very easy things those the only three things you need to do with the face of pixel very easy to do a very secure installed on a WordPress website and as I said if you're using a platform like Shopify something on those lines it's even easier than the process that I've just been through so hopefully that video has been useful one thing I wanna quickly tell you about before you go is my five-part Facebook
