This is the full transcript of Stop Using Grok Bot Wrong: 13 Hacks I Tested, published on YouTube by That AI Trick. Every paragraph carries the moment it was spoken, so you can click any line to jump straight to that point in the video, search the whole thing for a word, or copy it out.
0:00Hey, welcome back to that AI trick. I gave Grockbot one memory file and its very first email already sounded like the owner. That's one of 13 hacks I tested live. A few of them didn't hold up. The business in this video is made up. A coffee roaster in Austin called Cedar and Smoke owner Riley Carter. Two
0:20employees, three cafes buying wholesale. Here, one line from my terminal reaches the bot and seconds later the bot answers in its chat. And here I showed the bot a task once for 35 seconds [music] and it turned that into a skill it can repeat. 13 hacks, one real account. These are the Grockbot hacks going around this month. 13 of them kept coming up from importing your memory to turning a bot into a template. I ran all
0:5113 on my own account on October 26th. Each hack gets a stamp. Live means I ran it and you're seeing my real result. Demo means I couldn't run it on my account, so you're seeing a public demo. Corrected means the advice doesn't match the official docs. And I'll show you what the docs actually say. There are four parts. Setup, the things to do on day one. Reach, which covers X, email, and pages. teach and automate and finally connect, code and share. Why does this need checking? On October 15th, Elon Musk posted, "Never seen anything grow as fast as Grockbot. A product that grows that fast also
1:32changes every week. So, a tip [music] from last week can already be wrong. Everything you'll see in the app is my real run rebuilt on screen without my personal chats." Before the hacks, three rules for running bots. I use all three. Rule one, one bot per job. Treat each bot like a new hire with one role. On top sits a chief of staff bot and the other bots report to it. For Riley, that's a wholesale bot, a social media bot, and a roasting bot. Each has its own instructions, memory, [music] and routines. Rule two, give autonomy in
2:10steps. Don't tell a bot to run your SEO. First, ask it for a plan. Then let it work through the plan and stop for your approval at set point. After a week or two of good work, let it act without asking. Rule three, don't keep everything in the built-in memory. It still forgets. Riley's wholesale bot keeps every cafe order in a Google sheet [music] and reads that sheet as the source of truth. A person in that job would keep a spreadsheet, too. Give the bot [music] the same thing. Memory is still good for the small stuff. how you write, when you work, who your clients
2:46are. And that's hack one. Hack one, import your memory. There's no import button. You attach a file and say what it is. To get that file, ask chat GPT or Claude. Put everything you know about me into one file, then download it. For this video, I wrote Riley's file myself in the shape of a chat GPT export. roast [music] days, Monday and Thursday at 6:00 a.m. The supplier with a reorder point at £120 and a few rules. [music] Emails without exclamation marks. No meetings before 10 or on Fridays. I dropped it into a fresh bot and wrote, [music] "Import this memory. It's my export from chat GPT." About 30 seconds
3:34later, the bot listed what it saved in four sections: profile and roastery, operations, preferences, and current priorities. Then the real test, [music] a new message with nothing about style. Draft a short email to Lantern Cafe about our new holiday blend. No exclamation marks. Signed with a dash and Riley. It mentions the November 15th launch, the Gujil lot delivery on Mondays and Thursdays, and it offers a call after 10. Every one of those details came from the file. You can go one step further. If your notes or skills live in folders on your computer, the bot can read them through the desktop app and import them. More on
4:17local access in hack 10. Hack two, passwords. Your bot will need to log into things. The usual advice is to connect one password. The usual instructions say connecting creates a separate vault called shared with Grockbot and you copy into it only the login the bot should have. That was the old setup from September. The current integration works differently. It uses your personal or private vault. You approve access inside one password itself and you need version 8.12.42 or newer. It's rolling out gradually, so you might not see it yet. The part that
4:58stayed the same is the one that matters. The docs say your bots never see the values. The bot fills in the login form and the password never appears in the chat. Credit cards are separate. One password won't pass cards to the bot. For cards, there's the bot's own vault in settings. Vault is shared by all your bots. On October 23rd, it also started saving login and contacts. When I searched X for this video, that update
5:27was in the top five posts. Hack three is the one I'd skip. Every bot has a cloud computer with a browser. [music] You can watch it work or press take control and click around yourself. The problem is login. That browser starts out logged in to nothing. The popular fix, ask the bot to export all the cookies from Chrome on your Mac and load them into the bot's browser. After that, the bot is logged in everywhere you are. Even the tip itself calls this a risk worth taking. I didn't do it, and here's why. Browser sessions in Grockbot are shared by all the bots on your account. Load your cookies once, and
6:07every bot gets your email, your bank, and your admin panels. That includes the bot you made last week to read the news. This method isn't in the docs either. It's a workaround through local access. The safer path is hack two. Give the bot only the login it needs through one password and let it sign in by itself. Hack four. X without the API. Grockbot can search public posts on X [music] with nothing connected. No plugin, no API key, no credits. I asked, "Find tweets from the last few days about the latest Grockbot updates and give me the top five with links." It took about 70 seconds. All five came from the official
6:52account with dates and like counts, phone apps on iOS and Android, the one password integration, pages, saved login and cards in vault, and a shortcut for the iPhone action button. It's also the fastest change log I know. Now, the corrections. The tip says DMs work for free as well and that you get $100 of X API credit when you sign up. The Grockbot help pages say public X needs no plug-in or credits. DMs, bookmarks, and your timeline go through the X plugin and use your X API credits. X's own docs list a different signup credit with conditions. [music] So, I'm not quoting a number. I didn't
7:33open my DMs on camera. [music] The DM part is a public demo. Hack five, tag atbot. Under any post on X, yours or anyone's, reply with atbot and an instruction. The post goes to your main bot. In the demo, the reply was atbot, send this post to my bot and save it as a page. Grockbot answered, saving your Grockbot wishlist post as a page now. And the page was there. and and and [music] and and your X account has to be connected for it to work. Two limits from the docs. It won't reply under posts with a video or a GIF or when the reply also tags at
8:24Grock and it isn't available in the European Union, the UK, Australia, Iceland, Norway, or Likenstein. It goes by the country on your X account. So, a VPN won't help. I'm in Cyprus, which is in the EU, so I couldn't run this one. In the US, it works. Hack six, email with plus tags. Your account gets one email address on
8:49mail.grockbot.com. You can't rename it or delete it. You'll hear this called unlimited inboxes. It's one inbox, but anything after a plus sign still lands [music] there. So Riley Plus Wholesale goes to the same place as Riley. I asked the bot, "What's your email address? Send a test email to the plus wholesale version of it. Then check that inbox." First it asked which account to send from its own inbox or a
9:16Gmail I'd connected. I picked its own. Then it showed a draft from to subject and a body signed Riley because of the memory. Two buttons, discard and send email. It didn't send anything by itself. It waited for me to press send. Then the bot checked the inbox and the test email was there under the plus wholesale address a minute and a half from start to finish. Here's what tags are for. A routine can watch a single tag, give wholesale orders one address, [music] newsletters another, and signups a third, and each routine reacts only to its own mail. Tags work for signups, too. Use one tag per service, and you'll
10:03see who passed your address on. Hack seven, pages. A page is a report the bot builds inside Grockbot with [music] tables, charts, and controls. It opens in the app, and you can share it with a link. I asked, "Make a page with my holiday blend launch plan, a timeline to November 15th, the wholesale clients, and a subscriber goal tracker." About a minute later, it was ready. At the top, the launch target. Below that, a checklist of seven dates up to November 15th with filters for roasting, [music]
10:38wholesale, and Shopify, and social. Then, the three cafes with their weekly pounds. Then a tracker for the goal of 400 subscribers. Three scenarios, steady holiday push and stretch, a chart, and a field where you type today's number and get a forecast. The roast days, the reorder point at 120, the no meetings [music] before 10 rule. All of it came from the memory file. One thing it made up, the starting number, 310 subscribers, isn't in the file. Read the numbers on a page before you send it to anyone. To find a page later, open library or press command K and switch to pages. It's
11:22often called a markdown viewer. In my run, it was closer to a small dashboard. Hack eight, teach a task. You show the bot a task once on its cloud computer and it writes a skill from what it saw. The button has moved. Older tutorials show it in the plus menu. Now you open the bot's computer with the monitor icon at the top right and the button sits under the screen. Press it and recording starts right away. A red frame, a timer, and the line Newbot is watching and learning. I showed it something Riley would check before every roast. Open Chrome. Go to the National Weather Service forecast for Austin. Find
12:04Thursday 35 seconds. When the timer ran out, the app sent the bot a message. The recording is finished, learned the task from it. The bot went through the frames and the browser history. About 3 minutes later, it had a skill called check 7-day Noah weather forecast. Four learned steps inputs for latitude, longitude, and temperature unit with Austin and Fahrenheit as the defaults. Then it offered to run the skill before the
12:31Monday and Thursday roasts at 6:00 a.m. It knew the schedule from the memory. I asked for a dry run for Thursday's roast. A minute later, Thursday, October 29th, high near 81, 30% chance of showers after 100 p.m. The docs have a short rule for this. A skill is how. A routine is when the limits. Recordings run up to 10 minutes. There's no microphone, so you can't talk it through. [music] And it's built for
13:01tasks in the browser. Hack nine, the bridge. This is how you move scheduled tasks from chat GPT into Grockbot. You make a routine that wakes up on a web hook, so any other tool can call it. I asked Riley's bot, create a routine called roast log intake that runs when it receives a web hook. read the batch origin [music] weight and roast level from the request and reply with a oneline summary. It created the routine and gave me a cull command with placeholders for the URL and the key. The bot doesn't see those two values. They're hidden from it for security. I took the URL and the key and
13:41sent one request from my terminal. A test batch Ethiopia Guji £44 light medium. The server answered, "Success true." A few seconds later, the bot posted in its chat, "Rast batch Ethiopia Guji£44 light medium roast." And the runs tab showed [music] one run succeeded. Then I deleted the routine and the same request now gets rejected. That one request could come from Claude code, a chat GPT skill, a Shopify order, or a script on your laptop. Wrap it in a chat GPT skill
14:19and chat GPT can hand tasks to your bot. One detail I noticed, the web hook address is on a cursor.sh domain. Grockbot runs on cursor's infrastructure and the docs say so too. The limit is 200 calls an hour per routine. Hack 10. Your own computer. With the Grockbot desktop app installed, the bot can run commands on your Mac. You turn
14:47this on in settings under computer. There are three options, ask every time, which is the default, always allow, and never allow. I put a supplier invoice in my downloads folder and asked, "Grab the latest file from my downloads folder. Tell me what it is and what I owe. Just answer here." The bot asked for permission in the app on my Mac, and I allowed it. The answer was an
15:16invoice from Ridgeline Imports. £418 of green coffee, £2,28620 [music] due November 9th. Net14. All correct. There's a longer chain you'll see in demos. The bot starts clawed code in the terminal and Clawed Code drives Chrome through its extension. One agent running another agent on the same machine. I didn't try it and the docs don't describe it. Leave the setting on ask every time at least for the first few weeks. That's rule two
15:50again. Hack 11. Compose. Compose is a service where you connect your apps once and the same connection works in Grockbot, Claude Code, Codeex and other tools. Reason one is portability. When a new tool comes out, you don't reconnect everything. Reason two is more actions. A common claim is that Grockbot has no Google Sheets connection, only Google Drive. That's out of date. Grockbot has a native Google Sheets plug-in now. So, I asked Riley's bot, which Google Sheets actions can you run through Composio that you can't do with the native plugin? Don't open or change any of my files. First, it asked me to sign into Composeio. Then, it compared the two
16:37lists. 49 actions in Composeio against [music] about 30 in the native plug-in. Here's what Composio adds. Update a row by a key column or add it if it's missing. Sum or average a column with a filter. Edit and delete formatting rules that already exist where the native plug-in can only add new ones. Waterfall histogram and tree map charts [music] where the native plug-in stops at bar, column, line, area, scatter, and pi. and exporting a single tab to PDF. It didn't open a single file. If the native plug-in covers what you need, use it. If you need one of those actions, it's in
17:19Composeio. Hack 12. Coding through cursor. In this demo, the bot sends one task to a cursor project on the local machine and another to a cloud agent and tells it to use Claude Opus. Then it gets big goals like a weekly SEO plan and keeps handing tasks to cursor. It only comes back to its owner when it needs a decision. The sources confirm that Grockbot can hand work to cursor cloud agents. They don't
17:48confirm the bot choosing the model. Grockbot itself has no model picker and you need a plan that includes cloud agents premium or higher. My account shows cursor free included with super grock. No cloud agents, so I couldn't run this and the screen you're seeing isn't mine. If you're on premium, this setup is worth copying. The bot plans, cursor writes the code, and you step in
18:12only for decisions. Hack 13. [music] Turn your bot into a template. I asked, create a template of this bot so other roasters can copy it. It took about a minute and a half, and you can watch each step. [music] It read five memories, one skill, zero routines, and six plugins. Then it chose what to keep. It kept the roaster rules and the weather skill, and added a new getting started skill for onboarding. It cut Riley's name, Cedar and Smoke, the Austin coordinates, the cafe names, the supplier, and the fourth quarter targets. I never asked it to. The result is a card. Coffee roaster assistant,
18:54unpublished. Inside are the instructions, two skills, three memories rewritten in general terms, and Gmail, Google calendar, and X. So, a template carries memory too without your personal details. The docs don't list memory, but in my run, it was there. Your login, your computer, and your chat stay with you. Whoever adds the template connects their own apps. You can share it with your team only or with a public link. Publish templates show up at x.ai/bot/marketplace. [music]
19:30I didn't press publish. Two quick ones to finish. Editable drafts. When a bot writes an email or a message, you get a draft card. Change any word, then press send. You saw it in hack six. Bug reports. Tell the bot what broke and it files a report to the Grockbot team once you press allow. That one is from a demo. I didn't send a report. You may hear that a bot on the
19:57team fixes some reports by itself. [music] I couldn't find a source for that. Here's the scorecard. Nine hacks I ran live. Four you saw from public demos and five where the usual advice needed a correction. If you only do three today, import your memory. Set up one plus tag for one routine and teach your bot one task you repeat every week. and skip the cookie import. Thanks
20:24for watching. See you in the next one.
