# AI influencers need to pump the brakes on grokbot Channel: Chase AI Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3_BX0BodOo Duration: 7 min Language: English Words: 1478 Transcript page: https://viewrankai.com/tools/youtube-transcript/M3_BX0BodOo --- [0:00] So, Grokbot is the latest tool being hyped up by your favorite AI influencer, which is kind of a shame because this thing is actually a complete waste of time and it will cost you $200 a month to even use. Now, Grokbot is being billed as the easiest way to create a team of agents. Think Open Claw or Hermes, but this is inside the XAI ecosystem, which means you can only use Grok. But if you're someone who already knows how to use Cloud Code or Codex, is there any point at all in taking the time to learn Grokbot? Well, in this video, we're going to cut through the [0:29] hype and answer that question, although I think you already know the answer. So, let's talk about what Grokbot actually is. It's an interface that allows you to spin up a bunch of agents. All of these agents have Grok in the background, and you can assign them to do different tasks. The sell here is that you can have multiple bots working at once. They can talk to one another, and they can [0:48] work even when your computer is closed. So, they have a virtual server that they're all running in. It's a virtual computer. That's how they're able to talk to one another. That's how they're able to share files. And what you hear a lot of people saying in other videos is that each agent gets their own computer. That is not true. They're sharing one computer. You can connect it to pretty much any major app, so think Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub, Vercel, all that. And so, you can control everything from Grokbot. And you can have things like skills and routines just like you would inside a Cloud Code. And the idea [1:19] is that the these bots get smarter over time. So, as they run something, they can check the previous context, see if it worked, and sort of update themselves. If this sounds extremely similar to things like Hermes and Open Claw, that's exactly what this is. This is a very polished version of those sorts of tools. And again, it's under the XAI umbrella. It also has a pretty slick iOS app, so controlling all this from your phone is pretty easy. But then we run into issues right away when we talk about pricing. Remember, XAI now owns Cursor. So, in order to get a Grokbot that has its own computer, which [1:48] is one of the big sells, you need to be spending $200 a month on the Cursor Ultra plan. Now, that comes with Cursor as well, but understand, this is 200 bucks a month just to get essentially one of the defining features of this thing. The other major issue with Grokbot is that it is the Grokbot. This is not the Claude bot. This is not the GPT bot. You can only use Grok with this. We can't just mix and match [2:11] whatever model we want to do our job. So, with that in mind, who is this thing actually for? Is this for people who use Claude code or use Codex? Absolutely not. Is this for people who use Hermes and Open Claude? I would argue also no. The only sort of like demographic that would get a lot of use out of this is someone who wants to be a Hermes user, who wants to be an Open Claude user, but isn't technically adept enough, and instead is willing to shell out $200 a month to sort of have it [2:38] pre-built for them. If that's you, great. Enjoy it. But, if that's not you, there's pretty much no point to using this thing, especially because we can do all this inside of Claude code or Codex for cheaper. So, here I am inside of Grokbot. One of the big sales is I can spawn a bunch of agents to do work on my behalf. If I want to start a new one, I just hit new chat, and I have the ability to create a new bot. I can then easily edit the profile of that bot. I can say, "You are now the coding bot. You do code, and you [3:07] are responsible for all tasks related to coding projects." And that's great. But, how is this a step forward in any way from what we can do inside of Claude or Codex? I mean, if I'm inside the Claude code desktop app, and I want another agent, guess what I have to do? I just press the plus button. I now have another agent, and then I can spawn another one, and another one from [3:30] inside the terminal. All right. Here's one agent. There's a second agent. Like, here's a third agent. I'm failing to see what the point of this is and how this is any sort of leap forward. The second thing that gets hyped up about Grokbot is I can have all these different sub agents be responsible for different things. So, I have this content bot that does stuff. I have this research bot that does research. I have my Google bot that has to do with Google. And you just [3:57] saw the coding bot. How is this any different from me just spawning another sub-agent here? Not even another sub-agent, just another chat and using literally any skill I want for specific task. Again, how is this a leap forward? Now, the one thing Grok bot does do that makes it a very smooth experience is how these [4:18] agents essentially talk to one another. So, using research bot, I told it to find information about Grok bot. Then I said, "Send your finding to the content bot." And it did that in an extremely smooth process. But, in terms of your practical day-to-day, is this a huge differentiator between just running something or multiple skills under the same umbrella in different chats here inside of Claude or Codex? Furthermore, if I want my sub-agents or I want my agents to talk to one another, I mean, Claude just came out with that ability what, a couple of days ago? And secondly, if that's something I really want to do all the [4:51] time, I can have them create some sort of document in my code base and log changes there. Third, in terms of how often are you having sub-agents actually talk to one another regularly? Uh it's not something I think you do that often. Now, Grok bot is able to do this in part because of this virtual computer they're all running on and sharing. And you're looking at their screen right now. Now, this is a great thing. And this is actually pretty smooth in terms of setting this up. Like, it's all automatically set up [5:18] for you. Which is why I said this is essentially a nicely wrapped Hermes or Open Claude clone. We could do this with Claude code, right? We could set up inside of a VPS or I have a Mac mini. Like, we can have routines and stuff run over and over all the time. But, if we're doing that with Hermes or Open Claude, it does require a bit of setup. With Grok bot, it's just like that out of the box. But, is that worth the $200 a month premium to essentially have that set up for you? I would argue no. Secondly, the type of person who wants this thing is probably [5:51] technically adept enough to get it running on their own, which leaves us brings us back to the question of like who is this even for? Now, I've been kind of hammering Grok Bot in comparison to Claude and Codex and I don't think anyone is seriously saying that it is any sort of replacement, but I felt like I wanted to make this video because you watch all these things about Grok Bot and you think this was some like major tier one AI tool that all of a sudden is on the scene that, you know, is changing [6:17] the paradigm here. Like it it's not. It's literally not. This is literally a slick, you know, very user-friendly open Claude. Which is fine. But again, I feel like we need to kind of pump the brakes when these sort of things come out because most of the people watching this watching these videos know how to use [6:33] Claude Code and know how to use Codex. And I think they kind of get sent in the wrong direction, have their time wasted when all they need to really do is learn how to use the tools they already have better. So, if you are not an aspiring Hermes or open Claude user who is completely flustered with the setup, [6:48] then Grok Bot isn't for you. --- About this transcript Read from YouTube's own caption track and laid out by ViewRank AI (https://viewrankai.com).
