Like it's it's not one thing. People are like, "Oh, you got to be motivated." Yeah, and you also need to learn how to recharge. So, it's not like buying back your time is one part understanding how to let go and in the same sentence

[0:21] knowing what to not let go of, right? Like to to keep control of cuz I mean a lot of the the success we've all had is because we knew what to protect. Fact. And I know like for me in the early days, it was I was just scared I didn't know when I finally figured it out, it took me like I started at 17 and it wasn't till I was 24. And I'm talking 7 years

[0:42] of like hustling, try no side hustle. This is like full-time, parents begging me just get a normal job, can't do it, unemployable. And then when I started and it started to kind of click, I just didn't know what I was doing that made it click. So, then it was just like you know, I'm

[1:00] spinning plates non-stop. And that that literally almost killed me. And then it even though I sold that company became wealthy, it almost caused me to never get back in the operator game. And and then I moved to San Francisco and what I learned in San Francisco was how these 20-something year old kids use leverage and build these massive companies. And that that was where I had a early mentor Naval Ravikant who people know today cuz of Joe Rogan, but back then he was just

[1:27] Naval and he did Epinions and stuff. This is 2008. And he's the one that showed me the concept that I leaned into around time and the value of your time and how you have to treat it like it's worth more. If it's not if I didn't go there, I would have never figured out what I wrote about in the book cuz it was I mean I just knew one gear which is

[1:48] getting done, you know? So, what was it when you're you were in SF, you just looked at it and went, "How are these kids doing this with ease?" Was it there like an aha moment? Like what where did one part speed. Cuz you got to understand like you you meet these kids, they they've built 50 million raise

[2:04] let's say raise 50 million. And they they hire hundreds of people and they're 23, 24, 25 X Stanford graduates, you know, Berkeley and I'm just like I didn't understand it. And that's that's where like talking to Naval and watching this is early days like guys like David Sacks who's big on all in podcast like, you know, Calacanis. Like that was my cohort if you want to say that that uh my peer group back then and you know, they're the ones that were showing me, you know, great companies are built in downturns cuz it increases the IQ per square foot. That was one of the I I

[2:36] never occurred to me cuz if not then everybody's fighting for talent. Um and that there's only four ways to get leverage which is content collaboration capital which obviously you know, and then um code, right? And today AI is the most powerful form of code. And once I understood so I I was a software guy so I understood the code one. I understood the capital one, but it was the collaboration part that I didn't understand and I think that was where once I understood the value of the people in my life and how to hire, develop and retain them, that's when my life got really big without sucking up
