# How To Setup a Site Abandonment Flow In Klaviyo (FORGOTTEN FLOW) Channel: Emiel Dingemans | eCommerce Retention Marketing Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqvieRjGmU0 Duration: 10 min Language: English Words: 2068 Transcript page: https://viewrankai.com/tools/youtube-transcript/DqvieRjGmU0 --- [0:00] Have you ever wondered what happens to the 70% of the visitors that leave your site without viewing a product? They disappear forever. Unless you have this forgotten cla flow set up, the site abandonment flow. Most e-commerce brands focus all their attention on abandoned card emails, completely missing the much larger segment of email subscribers who never made it to a product page. In this video, I'll show you how to capture these lost visitors with the site abandonment flow. I'll show you the exact step-by-step process to recover thousands in lost revenue month after month. So, let's dive into it. First, let's talk about what the site abandonment flow is. So, the site [0:38] abedment flow is part of your entire abandonment series flows, but it's different from your abandoned card or abandoned checkout or browse abandonment flow. These flows target the people who've watched your product or even added to the cart or even started the checkout phase. But what about all these people who will land on your homepage, maybe check out your about us page and then leave without ever seeing a product on your website? And that's where the site abandonment flow comes in. So these people show some interest in your brand, but they didn't go far enough into your salesunnel to be triggered by your other abandonment series flows. And if you [1:10] don't have this side abandonment flow, these people won't be retargeted by your email marketing system. That's why it's so important to have this site abandonment flow in place even though if they're just very early in the customer journey stage. Without a site abandonment flow, these people could simply disappear and you've paid for the [1:27] traffic with no way to bring them back. So the site abandonment flow is basically your safety net that catches your website traffic at the very top of your funnel. So why do you need this flow? Let me show you some numbers to show you why this flow is so critical. For the average e-commerce store, around 70 to 80% of your website traffic won't go to a product page. This means that if you're having 10,000 website visitors every single month, 7,000 to 8,000 of them are not being captured by your abandonment series if you don't have this flow in place. So without a site abandonment flow, you're basically [1:58] saying goodbye to all of these people while you did pay for them with your expensive paid ads. So the site abandonment flow simply works because it captures visitors at a very earlier stage of the customer journey. It guides them towards relevant product. It's the perfect moment to build like brand awareness with them and it lowers your average customer per acquisition because you can now retarget them with this flow. So long story short, you simply need a site abandonment flow if you're serious about your email marketing. Now let's talk about how to structure your site abandonment flow. So for this flow, I like to use two emails where email one [2:32] is an email where we're going to act as the shop assistant. So the trigger of this flow is going to be active on site. And we're going to have some profile filters in place like view product zero times since starting this flow. Add to cart check out started and place order zero times since starting this flow and has not been in the flow in the last 30 days. So these are all filters that we want to have in place to make sure that if someone goes further down your customer journey. They won't receive this flow, but they will enter the browse card or check out embedment [3:01] series or they will go straight to the post purchase flow if they've done a purchase. Also make sure that if someone has visited your website in the last 30 days, they won't receive this flow again because then it can be annoying for your email subscriber. So this first email is product focused. Its goal is to showcase your best product categories or products to help visitors discover items they might have missed. So, we just want to act as their shop assistant. And we want to do this in a friendly and not in a pushy way. So, since their buying intent is so low, we don't want to send this [3:34] email too soon. So, that's why we want to wait 4 hours after they've been active on your website. But, as I always preach on this YouTube channel, make sure to split test this for your own brand. So start with a split test where just 4 hours versus 1 hour and find the perfect time frame for your e-commerce brand. What needs to be inside this first email? First of all, short and friendly copy where you act as their shop assistant. Highlight your main product categories or highlight your top three to five bestsellers. This kind of [4:01] depends on the niche and the brand. Sometimes it makes more sense to guide them towards categories. Sometimes if you don't have that many products, it makes more sense to just highlight your best seller. Always make sure to include a shop all button in case the product blogs that you do include don't spark the interest. They want to give people the option to watch your other products as well. And you want to show press mentions or social proof or risk [4:23] reversals at the end of this email. Again, these people are very early in the customer journey. So you'll probably have to do some convincing. You need to build some trust with them before they are ready to buy. and showing press mentions, showing social proof, showing your risk reversals is an excellent way of building that trust with this audience. Over here you can see like an example for one of our clients, honeydew sleep. So we say transform your nights into dreamlands discover now and we have a short body copy where we say we notice you stopped by and then we highlight some bestsellers in this case some [4:54] pillows and also sheets and pillow cases. And then we end the email with as seen in to build some trust. And we also have a food bar where we say 60 diet sleep trial, threeear warranty, free US shipping over $50 and pillows handmade in the USA. So this is a very important part to build that trust with this [5:13] customer or this potential customer. Then we go into email two and this is going to be a plain text reminder. If you're following me on this YouTube channel, then you know that I'm a big fan of plain text emails. I love to sprinkle them in at certain strategic moments and I think this is such a moment where it's a good moment to include a plain text email because first email was designed we acted as their shop assistant. For people who are very early in the customer journey, it can work very well to include a plain text email from the founder to build that personal connection with the potential [5:45] customer and to convince them to buy as your store. So this email will be sent one day after email one. What needs to be inside? So, it's going to be a plain text email from the founder. Going to highlight our brand USBs, very short, going to highlight our bestseller page if you have any, which I would always recommend. And you basically want to keep it short and casual. Over here, I have like a simple outline of how such an email could look like. So, it's going to be, "Hey there, I'm founder name, founder of brand name. I saw you were watching our store, but couldn't find [6:14] the right product." Then, you can have one sentence where you highlight one of your brand USBs. To help you out, check out their bestseller page. These are our customer favorites. and I know you will love them too. And then you can link this bestseller page text and you can also use call to action button show a shop best sellers now kind regards find founder name founder of brand name. So this is a very simple template that you could apply to your own brand. Of course you can write this more in the tone of voice of your brand. This is just a generic example. Now let me show you how [6:43] you can build this flow in Clavia. So, when you're in your Clave account, in the left menu, you go to flows and then in the top right corner, you can hit create flow. Then, we're going to build our own. We're going to call this site abandonment demo. And then we're going to hit create flow. First, we need to [7:01] select the trigger as I just showed you. This is active on site all triggers. Then, we're going to look metric and then we have active on site here. Then, we're going to select the profile filters as I named before. Uh so we want to make sure that if someone goes further down the customer journey, they won't receive this flow about the browse card check out the benefit flow. So what you're going to say is what someone has done. Person has placed order zero times since starting this flow. Person has check out started zero times in starting this flow. And person has added to cart zero times since starting this flow. and [7:39] person has viewed product zero times since starting this flow and has not been in this flow in the last 30 days. Then you hit save. Hit save again. Confirm and save. Then we have the trigger setup. Now we can add the time delay where I recommend 4 hours. And then you can add email one over here. Make sure to turn off smart sending and to turn on UM tracking. There you go. And this is going to be email one. Then I'm going to add a time delay. One day later, we're going to add email two, which is going to be the plain text email. Again, turn [8:19] off smart sending, turn on tracking. There you go. And let's say you want to set up an AB test for 4 hours versus 1 hour. Uh what you can do is add a conditional split where you're going to say random sample 50%. Then on the yes part, we have 4 hours. Then over here going to make 1 hour. You could like circle this back uh after email one if you want, but I like to make two separate parts because what happens in email one will influence email two as well. So that's why I like [8:53] to have two separate parts in this case. Then you can simply clone your original email one and put it on the other side. Same for this time delay, one day. And same for email two. There you go. So now we've built the full flow structure with an AB test where we test 4 hours versus 1 hour. And this is how you set up the site abedment flow inside your Clavio account. So that's exactly how you set up a site abandonment flow in Claio to capture those visitors who otherwise would have been skipped by your email marketing system.
