# The New Way To Use Claude For Regular People Channel: Paul J Lipsky Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WTqqWBPCsk Duration: 16 min Language: English Words: 3231 Transcript page: https://viewrankai.com/tools/youtube-transcript/9WTqqWBPCsk --- [0:00] This is the right video for you if you've used Claude or Claude co-work before and you're ready to take things up a level. You know that there's more you could be getting out of it, but you're not super technical and the name Claude code sounds like a tool that wasn't designed for you. And my goal is that by the time this video ends, you're going to see that Claude code is actually very simple to use and you can do so much more with it than you can with regular Claude. So much so that you'll switch all your workflows over to Claude code and never look back. This is [0:30] Claude code for regular people. Opening up the Claude desktop app, you'll notice up here at the top we now have two sections. The first one is just called Claude and the second one is called code or Claude code. Claude does two things. You can ask questions here or get Claude to do work for you. In fact, under the hood, there's actually two parts to Claude. There's Claude chat and there's Claude co-work. They used to be separate, but now they've been brought together. So whether you want to just chat or use co-work, you do either one from this single prompt box. The other option up here, like I showed you [1:04] before, is code. This is Claude code. Now everything regular Claude can do, Claude code can do, but it can do more and it can do it better. Now Claude code was originally designed for developers and coders and regular Claude was designed for non-technical people, but that gap has shrunk so much because of AI and now regular people without much of a technical background can take advantage of the full power of Claude inside of Claude code and it has gotten so much easier and more intuitive to use that I think everyone should be using it. The first reason for that is because Claude code, guess what, is better at [1:42] coding. Now I know what a lot of you are saying, Paul, I'm not a coder. I don't know how to build an app, but you have to stop talking like that in this day and age. If you know how to write or talk, you can build an app with AI. Everyone's a coder now or maybe it's more accurate to say everyone's a vibe coder now. It's as easy as talking to an AI. Let me show you. Here I ask Claude Code to build a very simple timer app for me that lives in my menu bar. Claude [2:08] Code then created the app. It built it. It launched it. You can see it right here in my menu bar. And I literally didn't have to do anything. It did every single step of this and only took a couple of minutes for it to build this out. Now, by contrast, I asked Claude Co-work here to do the exact same thing. Claude Co-work will code out this app, but what it won't do is it won't build it and it won't launch it. And it's going to make you do all that work. And if you don't know how to do that, then you're going to have all this code that [2:37] you can't even use. Claude Code has full access to your computer, so it can actually launch the app for you and build it out completely hands-off for you. And think about what this unlocks for you. Fully custom apps with all the features you want. No waiting around for updates or new features. There's no bloat because it only does what you want it to do and there are no paywalls, no annoying updates, and nobody asking you for money. For example, I built this app right here. I call it Dayboard. And this is the app I've always dreamed of, but no one has ever made. So, I had Claude [3:11] Code make it for me. What it does is it pulls in all the events from my calendar. For instance, right here you can see the workout class that I've scheduled to go to on Tuesday at 5:30. It also pulls in all of my Apple Reminders. That's what all of these are right here. And it also pulls in all the videos that I'm working on that I have stored inside my Obsidian vault. That's what all of these are up here. So, now instead of using three different apps to plan out my day, I can plan out my entire day in one app. And there are so many little things that are specific to [3:44] my workflow that I wanted included inside this app that no one else would build because it wouldn't be relevant for other people. So, for instance, if I double click on one of these videos right here, that opens it up inside this text editor. It's very similar to Obsidian if you've used that, so I can make any changes in here that I wanted to, but there are little things in here that only apply to me. So, for instance, right here I have the script for the video. I usually script out like the intro and the outro, and like the middle sections are ad-lib. But, you see inside [4:13] this intro section, I also include like these stage directions if you want to call them. Different things I'm supposed to be like showing on camera. But, over here on the right, I can click on this icon right here, and that will copy just what I'm supposed to say. So, I can paste that into my teleprompter without all of this. So, now if I paste, you'll see it's just the spot stuff I'm supposed to say, and not all the stage direction. And if we scroll up here, there's other stuff up here, like for instance, right here I can assign who's supposed to take care of this next. I [4:44] can assign it to myself, Claude, ChatGPT, Grok Bot, or another agent. And these get checked by my agents periodically through the day. So, I don't have to go over to them and tell them to do work. They just see that something is assigned to them, and they start doing that work. So, all these little features, other apps may have things like this, but having exactly what you need, it is super specific for my needs. And that is only possible with custom software now thanks to things like Claude Code. Here for instance, I just ran it again and told it, "Hey, can you add a creator button?" So, when I [5:19] turn on creator mode, it will blur stuff out and hide it. So, if I'm making a video like this one, people won't be able to see like sensitive information. So, now I have creator mode turned on, and that's why all these things are blurred out. And I was able to add that feature with just simple language, like "Create a creator button, and here's what I want it to do." Here's another example. I've been trying to get the new iPhone duo, but it's sold out everywhere. So, I had Claude Code build this simple app for me. It checks for availability every few minutes, and once it comes back into stock, it will let me [5:52] know so I can order it. And then, of course, there are games. You can use this to create virtually any game that you can imagine. And honestly, creating them now is just as fun for me as actually playing the games. So, pretty much any game and any app you can imagine, Claude Code can build for you. Now, one of the concerns I had about using Claude Code was that I didn't want to have to learn something new. And I was already using Claude Co-work, which was really great for things like creating spreadsheets, presentations, documents, and motion graphics. But, what I learned is that Claude Co-work is [6:26] actually a very similar experience. And all those things that you can use Claude Co-work for, you can absolutely make with Claude Code, only a lot of times even better. You can use this for documents, spreadsheets, presentations, motion graphics. And you can manage your entire second brain inside of Claude Code. And really, it works pretty much [6:48] the exact same way as regular Claude. So, I'm here inside of Claude Co-work. And over here on the left, this is the sort of menu that you'll use. And if I switch back over to regular Claude, you can see that it's pretty much exactly the same. We have new, which is where you can start a new task. You have search, obviously. Projects, which I'll get to in a second. Artifacts, this is going to show you all the things you've created. Things like docs, slides, designs, across all of your different tasks, you can easily find them all listed right here. You can also set up schedule tasks, just like you can do in [7:24] regular Claude. And this customize will allow you to add things like skills, connectors, and plugins. Coming over to projects now, what you'll find is that projects in Claude Code work exactly the same as they work inside of regular Claude. In fact, these are shared projects. All the projects you have already set up with regular Claude, [7:45] you'll find here inside of Claude Code. Now, projects are pretty new for Claude, at least this version of them. So, I thought we would set up one together. So, you'll see not only how to set up a new project, but all the capabilities and what you can do with Claude Code. So, click on this plus icon right here to start a new project. Now, projects can be used for multiple different purposes. There's really not one defined way to use them, but I like to create a new project anytime I have a new goal in mind or where I want to have an area where I can have Claude just focus in on [8:21] one single task I might be doing over and over again. So, for instance, right here, I'm going to call this one invoices because I want an area where anytime I need Claude to create an invoice for me or follow up on invoices, this is where I want to come. So, inside the goal here, I'll also kind of put that in there. I'll say create and track invoices. You can also add some context, but we'll skip that for now and then click on create project. Now, while that's getting set up, I'll click on these three dots right here and click on settings. There are a few settings in [8:51] here that you can change, but what I'm focusing on right now is right here where it says environment because with this selected, I can come here where it says pre-approved folders and find a folder on my computer where I want Claude to work. So, I actually have an invoices folder. I'm going to click on [9:08] add folder and find that. Here we go. So, you see this one says invoices. I select that one and I'll click on add folder. So, now that has been added. So, anytime I'm working inside this invoices project, Claude will have access to that folder where I'm already storing my invoices. Now, what's really cool about these new projects is that we have these two panels here. Over here on the left, this is the coordinator. And over here on the right, this is going to be the threads that it creates. What that means is that you can send multiple tasks to this coordinator and it will create like [9:44] separate threads, separate chats if you will, that are working on all those different projects. So, I could say for instance, just like I give a big brain dump and I can say create an invoice for sponsor one, then one for sponsor two, then one for sponsor three. And now this chat right here, this is the coordinator again. This one actually isn't going to do any of the work. You can see over here that it created a new task and [10:08] that's the one that's doing the work. And depending on the complexity of it, it might send it all to one task or one thread or it might create multiple threads. And if you want to, you can click on this thread to see what it's doing and to chat with just this thread. I'm going to stop this one though because that's not actually doing anything or it's not actually real, I should say. Here's maybe a better example. I created a new project called research. Then inside of that, I asked Claude Code to create a research report for me about Claude Code, create a presentation for me about Claude Code, [10:41] and a motion graphic about Claude Code. Those are all things we would normally use Claude Design for or Claude Co-work, but we're doing it inside of Claude Code instead and all of it just from this single orchestrator. But as you see over here on the right, it is working on all three of those threads and one of them's actually finished. So, this is the report. open this up. You can see the report right here. It opens it up in this artifact view. I can make any changes I want in here or I can reopen this thread and ask Claude to make any changes to this. And from within Claude [11:16] Code, you can use all the skills that you're familiar with from regular Claude. So, just type in forward slash and then you can type in the name of the skill you want to use. This is one of my skills right here. So, you're not going to lose that just by switching over to Claude Code. Now, we're going to come back to all the threads by clicking up here where it says threads. Now, you can [11:36] see that all three of them are resolved. So, I can expand this to see them. So, let's take a look next at the presentation. So, I'll click on that and then click on the presentation. Again, it opens up this artifact view and I can click through the presentation that it created for me. And then finally, let's look at the motion graphic. So, return back to the threads, find the motion [11:55] graphic, and there it is right there. And I actually think that looks really nice. So, now if you want Claude Code to build an app or a game for you, it's the exact same setup. You'll just come over and create a new project for that game and tell it or that app and tell it what you want it to make. For instance, right here is a project I have called Tab Over. And this is an app I had it build for me. This is the app right here. You see that that just popped up where I can [12:22] switch between different open apps. That's what I created. Now, this is already built into the Mac. There's already something that does that, but I wanted something very specific. I wanted to be able to hide apps that I wasn't using. I wanted to be able to do some other stuff with it that was very specific for my needs. So, I just created this project, told it what I wanted. And you see, this is just plain English. And I used this button right here, which allows you to dictate. You just talk out loud and it just writes down what you're saying and then it gets to work. And then it just built this for [12:52] me. It just took a couple of minutes. And now I have my own version of this app called Tab Over that does exactly what I want and nothing more and nothing less. So, as you see, this is very similar to regular Claude in the way that it's set up. You may not be familiar with the new projects yet, but if you have the new projects, it works exactly the same as well. But, Code has something that regular Claude doesn't have. If we start a new task up here, one that's outside of a project, you'll see that you have the option right here to run that task on your computer as [13:29] opposed to in the cloud. And when you do that, Claude doesn't upload your files to the cloud. Claude Cowerk used to work that way. Used to be local, but now it isn't. So, everything you do in regular Claude is uploaded to the cloud. And that change upset a lot of Cowerk fans because it was one of the key reasons many people used it. But, you can kind [13:51] of get that back now with Claude Code. Claude Code also works really well from your phone. So, here on my phone, I'll open up the left side menu inside the Claude app, and you'll see all of my projects right here. This research one, for instance, is one that we started and created on my computer, yet I can see it on my phone. And this is the full [14:12] conversation I had with the coordinator. I can open up any of the threads, like the one that created the presentation, and even look at the presentation. One thing to be aware of though is that if you start a new session outside of a project, like I showed you before, and on that drop down you select for it to run locally, you're not going to be able [14:30] to access that session from your phone. For the best experience on mobile, it's best just to do everything inside of projects, whether you're doing that on your phone or on your computer. Overall, I just find Claude Code to be better than regular Claude. The only time I wouldn't use it now is when I just have some basic questions I want to ask. For [14:51] that, I would still use regular chat. But, anytime I want Claude to actually do something for me now, I use Claude Code. And maybe I've convinced you to give Claude Code a shot, too. I think you'll see that it's a lot easier than you think and a lot more capable. So, give it a shot and let me know what you think. Leave a comment down below to let me know if you use Claude Code and if you are going to give it a shot if you don't use Claude Code. The last thing I didn't get to show you though is that Claude Code is hands down the best tool [15:19] I've ever used for editing videos. I didn't want to include that in this video because I have a whole video on it right here for you. So, if you want to see how I edit all my videos now using Cloud Code, including the video you're watching right now, click on this video right here and I'll see you over there [15:34] in 1 second.
