# Day 512 growing my SaaS startup to $1M 🎉 Channel: Marc Lou Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98Mh_6cKedc Duration: 16 min Language: English Words: 2909 Transcript page: https://viewrankai.com/tools/youtube-transcript/98Mh_6cKedc --- [0:02] So, this is it. Data Fast officially reached 20 plus K MRR, which is [music] absolutely insane knowing that nothing happened for 9 months and then the last few months have been really crazy. [music] And so, this video is about this tiny little percent missing towards reaching this goal as well as launching a new startup [music] from nowhere. [0:20] Let's uh let's let's jump right in. 500 days, zero to a million [music] dollar. 20.4 Make stupid face. on page of Twitter app. Wow, that's really good. Put that in this mental. Oh, the stress. Oh, we launching. [music] Yeah, we launching. Holy smokes, we got a customer. Here we go. Man, I love this. [music] [0:47] [music] Man, there's so much of things going on. It's so insane. There's another guy [music] who got acquired at the moment. Like, I don't even have time to cover their stories because it's mostly me deciding to work solo on this project. Well, that's good. It's working. Yeah. [laughter] Honestly, I'm glad we didn't sell. Yesterday, we covered an acquisition for a guy we met in Cyprus. Matteos, he sold his startup and he had issues with escrow because he couldn't transfer the money to his bank account because he's 16 years old. He reached out to me and he's like, "Oh, I need to put my parents on the escrow documents so that I can [1:21] receive the money." Crazy. I know today, a dude, 20 years old, just got acquired on Trust the Market. There's also another news. Maybe a maybe a bigger one. I'm sure it's more than that. Oh, 300? Wow, you're a real influencer now. [laughter] It's just because of you. You're taking the camera. It's all because of me, he said. I you're the farmer, so you know, I'm just a cow. I'm a I'm doing my thing. Man, 300K is crazy. There's one more thing, actually. I think this comes also, this 300K followers thing, I think it was triggered by something else. Yeah, you [1:52] you see it it will come soon. Okay. I know. No, man, no joke. This is crazy, man. Like, you search Twitter in the App Store and you see my stupid face at the front page of Twitter app. That is absolutely [music] crazy. You remember you were at the beginning when we started 4 years ago? Like none of this was planned. I was happy to get like 100 followers. And then we uncovered this thing. Like I was in my in my wildest dream maybe 1K one day we'll get like 10K followers. I'll be like, "Oh my god, that would be freaking amazing." And now it's like 300K and featured in the [2:20] Twitter App Store app screenshots. It's just I feel like just mad, man. What I mean is more it's everything feels almost impossible until you slightly break through and you realize like, "Wait, the ceiling is actually much higher." That's really I think one of the big learnings. It's like actually you can pretty much achieve anything as long as you put in the time cuz I we've been doing this for like very very long time now. But I think where most people quit is because [music] you get those negative thoughts because you're not making it and you see other people making it and it leads nowhere and you feel like [2:51] you're working this much to get this much and in the end people would stop on the way. I think where people achieve great stuff is when you actually don't stop and you're comfortable being uncomfortable for a long long time until finally you break a ceiling and you achieve whatever this is that you want [3:06] to achieve. Never give up. Keep working. Find a way how to make it. And pivot when you feel like you need to pivot. Don't be afraid to to throw away everything and start over. Start over. Maybe that's important thing. Yeah. Boom. [3:24] I like you give me some sexy news. You want to hear this? Mhm. We're talking about like 500 days of work here. I thought a little bit of context. We need to give a little bit of context. 500 days [music] working on a piece of software with one goal in mind, getting it from zero to a million dollar in valuation. I spend probably 80% of my time making stuff so [3:48] that hopefully it happens at some point. And today it might have happened. Might? I see, you're not sure. Last time [music] we checked, it was 19.5. So, like 500 MRR, we're close to the goal. So, should we check? Yeah. Okay. You ready? Uh-huh. You're going to see it right now. I'm trying to grow this [music] software [4:08] that I fast to $1 million 642 in MRR. Quick update on my web analytics software 925. [music] it. What? 3,000? Yes, sir. Yay! 7K. Going for [ __ ] it. Yeah, 500K customer is crazy, don't worry. 10.4. We crossed 20K. By far. Wow. Holy [ __ ] 60% of the competition already, which is [4:36] insane. 15K. 19K. 19K. Yeah. Yay! I mean, I remember when we were in South Africa last year June, we were celebrating like 3K [clears throat] MRR, and we opened a kombucha because we don't drink champagne. And like, man, we did it like 1 year of like nothingness, [music] and then finally 3K MRR. It took 4 months to reach just 1K, and [music] honestly, 20K [5:05] looked impossible. And now, here we are. For comparison, plus 4K MRR in 4 weeks. Wow. [ __ ] sake. Look, this is nothing. This is where most of the work was. Nothing, nothing, nothing, and then My boy, what the hell? The actually, there's so many things that we've [music] learned doing this. Maybe you should make one video about [5:28] it. Yeah, yeah, I think I'll make a video. Yeah, there's just so much so much to unpack. Ben, we [ __ ] did it, putain. This is mental. We are patron. Ah, we're done. We have to find a new goal for this video then. What is the next goal? Drop the idea in the comments. [laughter] [5:48] I say we're traveling to Celsius. I'll drop a link below the comments and let us know what you think, guys. Okay, now we're going to go to the beach, all right? I'll get my board ready and and yeah, let's go. All right, cheers, guys. See you at the beach. [6:07] You don't really look happy while working. Are you okay? I'm pissed at the AI. Why? It's a bit dumb at the moment. What are you working on? The god damn same thing for the last 1 year, you dumb. Why it's been delayed? I don't even know. How come you don't? I don't know. I [6:22] don't feel like it. Ah! Man, I lost it. You lost what? I don't know. I lost the spirit. It's so weird. Why? I don't know. I feel like I'm not excited to work anymore. This is a crisis. As a farmer, I feel like the farm is going to close. Ali, little therapy session. Why you don't [laughter] [6:42] want to work? I mean, it's a bit of a spoiled thing to say that because I've been working for like 4 years, I think. Work never felt like work. It was always like a pleasure to go to the computer and for some reason recently it started to feel like work for the first time. Why is it hard? This is literally [music] the slowest app I've ever shipped in the entire history of [7:04] shipping. What happened to the middle? Data first then the launch of Trust and Marr, then we moved to Cyprus. I mean, life can happen, you know? Like I know lots of people who watch this video, they were doing weekend project and when you get caught in your work, personal life, it's okay to push the project postponing more and more. But when you realize that it's a dead end, then you just need to push it, right? So maybe we can make a promise. When are you going to ship? Maximum deadline and [7:40] then you just move on, you know? Tomorrow? Tomorrow. I'm really not proud of this app. I don't know why. will decide. [music] It's not up to you. It's everyone who is watching will decide. True. It's just so normal that you progress is so slow, and you're [music] just procrastinated. But, yeah, even Mark have it. Everyone have it. The real skill is learning how to make work feel like play. And I think this is a skill. If I'm really good at it, I will end up coming with something that makes me feel like I'm having fun again. That means maybe ditching some projects that I don't want to work on, [8:17] which is really hard to do. That also means maybe giving myself challenges. That means maybe taking some holidays and time off. It's a bit counterintuitive, but now I'm in kind of stuck in this thing where I don't feel like working, so I'm not really working, and I'm not taking holidays at the same time. And Fix this. Fix this. [laughter] [8:35] Super shrimp. [music] Just ship it, Mark. Just ship it. [laughter] Just ship it. Oh, the mic is gone. The mic is gone. Just ship it. Aw, so great. [8:49] [laughter] We're back. We're so We're so freaking back, man. I think I was depressed. I don't know why. What the [ __ ] bro? I forgot something. I finally finally finished this freaking app that I've been working on that I've been [snorts] working on for almost a year, which is absolutely insane and and a little bit stupid of me. I should have really [9:08] focused looking and launching this app. I think I understand [music] why I didn't feel good because I spent so much time on it. Then my body my brain starts to have expectations about results that I'm supposed to have with this app when it's actually so stupid. It's always a really good reminder that no matter how many apps you've shipped, there's still the the the voice in your head is still telling you that you need to make those app better. You need to improve this, improve that, and it's a never-ending story. And so, I think next time what I will do is I will always give myself [9:34] like a deadline, like a very short deadline at which I have to launch this app no matter what it is. Today it's launch day. I just came back from a run. Now I'm uploading the video on YouTube and I'm launching this thing right now. Let's uh let's let's publish. Then the wife [music] is coming [9:49] back. You arrived just for the video. This is really amazing. This is the new landing page. I don't know what to think about it, but I have to stop tweaking it. I have to launch it. I'm going to stop. I'm going to do something. I don't know. Putain, I don't even know how to talk to my to my YouTube camera anymore. I'm [10:08] awkward as [ __ ] but we're launching it. We're launching. I need your help. I just need you to review the tweet, the launch tweet, just to know if it's good to post like this. Okay, this is the tweet. I made an app with my terrible picture. I mean, if this one it would be nice to have like actual image of how the progress every night. I mean, I can make more tweets about this. This is the launch tweet. This is one thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's okay. Yeah. This is what Once we get the wife approval, this is time to launch. Here we go. Ah, [10:39] the stress, putain. Ah, God. [ __ ] too late. [screaming] Let's go. And now we just wait. The only way to know if something is actually working is to look at this, Mr. DataFast. Okay, this is a good day for Trust My App. This is a good day for DataFast. CodeFast and CheapFast are both dead. Now it's time to look at [11:02] Super Stream with eight online visitors. We're live. Holy smokes, we got a customer. Here we go. [laughter] There we go. This is it, bro. It's not a $0 startup anymore. LET'S AND MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY BY FAR is watching all the people somewhere. That's a big, big, big party in Europe, BUT OH, SECOND CUSTOMER. [11:32] SECOND CUSTOMER. WHAT THE HELL, BRO? Three customers. Neighbors might think we're absolutely mad. I swear after this I'm taking a holiday. I spent way too much time on my computer these days, but this is going to be The next 24 hours are going to be fun, I think. [laughter] We're 2 to 3 hours post launch and I'm going to check the numbers cuz I haven't I haven't been walking to the beach cuz I didn't want to see my computer. We are sitting at $577 in revenue. Whoa. So we crossed two figures, three figures, and who knows, maybe by the end of the day maybe we'll cross $1,000. I think I'm [12:10] going to prepare a little product hunt launch. I think that will be it for this little side project. [music] Stay tuned for the next video. We're going to see where this is going to go. I'm about to go to bed. One last update. Super Stream crossed $1,000 mark in 4 hours exactly. Let's see where it goes tomorrow. I would say that's That's a pretty successful launch in my [12:32] own perspective. Very happy with it. People are also having fun. I see a bunch of tweets from people showing photos of their desktop and you know, like the app like looking at them and analyzing their posture. So things are working out. This is a beautiful little thing. I never really think about the business side of thing. I always think [12:48] about what apps do I want to exist? Usually these are apps that either solve my need or things like spark my creativity like for posture mirror. Most entrepreneurs would tell me like this wouldn't work or I should focus on a specific project and go all in. And for some reason this like this new approach of like trying a bunch of stuff, making stuff that I want to exist somehow it ended up working well for me. So I think there's a space for people who are just want to create stuff just for the sake of creating and and that's a beautiful [13:16] world. So just ship it and good night. Where are we going? So it's 9:30. Mark and I will do high ropes. He will prepare Hyrox for May in Korea competition and I'll do Paris Marathon next Sunday. So, I'll run and do a little bit upper body to relax my strong leg muscle. Look at those. Let's go. [13:45] Before workout, yesterday was very important day because we launched Super Stream. It's almost like 24 hours. Yesterday when I checked was 1.1 thousand dollars. Some people are already level eight, I think. making people addicted to the good posture? Uh-huh. That's a new type of drug. The 24-hour result will come soon. First, [music] let's work out. Hyrox and [14:06] master. [14:13] I'm dead right. Four more rounds. [14:30] I do 400 meters then 100, 100, 200, 200, 200. How was the workout? We're busted. We need to eat like crazy. Hey, let's go. Let's go. Let's go. [14:46] Look at those shoes, man. I really need new shoes. [laughter] [14:57] So, this is it. That's the end. Um, I admit I'm a little bit sad that the series has ended because it gave me a purpose. It [music] made me turn on the camera for so many months. I don't know. It's It's It's a bitter feeling that all the fun was in the days [music] [15:14] grinding toward getting to that goal. And now that the goal is here, I feel like something is missing. And so, I guess I have to set up a new goal and what about reaching a million ARR for Data FES. That's extremely ambitious. That's about four times more MRR than the current. It seems impossible for a solo-ish founder. I have no intention to build a company or at least to, you know, grow with a team [15:41] and [music] something. So, I don't know. That might be way too ambitious, but at least it gives me a new purpose. Uh it makes me want to turn on this camera and make more videos again. So, now it's time to get back on the grind and I will see you in the next series. Cheers. [music and singing] This is day one of growing a software to $1 million.
